    For the zombie phobia part, I think I have that too. Since I was little, I would sometimes stand terrified at the idea of having a hord of zombies come bargin through the door, and I would stand helplessly. I remember having often nightmares where zombies would be in it, or majorly being in an apocalyptic world where you have to fend for yourself. That supprised me that through a series of weeks after just seeing a glimpse about a zombie movie, I had nightmares about it for a while, and I didn't even seen any "gory scene" when I glanced at it O_O

    You saying “I hope that I change from this” really struck a chord with me. I grew up as an anime hater because I was too busy watching the brain rot that Disney and Nickelodeon were producing. I had friends that watched anime but one of my friends was the biggest DBZ fan and that was all he ever talked about, so I just assumed (rather stupidly) that all anime was like DBZ so I was never really into anime. Fast forward to high school and one of my friends introduced me to Full Metal Alchemist one night while we were sharing a joint and right then and there it hit me in the face how stupid I was for never watching anime. I was hooked and started consuming every anime that peaked my interest, I stumbled upon One Piece very early in my anime journey but this was 2018 and there was 700+ episodes and that really deterred me from watching.I’ve been to Japan before so I knew the popularity one piece had within their culture. Fast forward to 2020 I had consumed most of the anime that interested so I figured screw it I might as well give it a go and like most people by episode 37 I was on my feet in tears hyped for crew. As soon as I got 300+ episodes deep it was clear to me that what I was seeing was one of the best stories ever created. I’ve been fully caught up since 2020 and let me tell you this anime will simultaneously rip your heart out while making you laugh tears. Your in-depth reactions and your ability to articulate your thoughts will make you feel extremely attached to the world Master Oda has crafted and that is the secret ingredient to creating a new One Piece fan. Cheers from Oklahoma 🥳

    I was just looking for someone reacting to the dub to listen to while working on other things (hard to keep track in the Japanese when you don't speak it and can't read the subtitles at the same time) and I really love that you take the time to reflect on the deeper meanings of the series. You are very thoughtful and your anecdotes contribute to making your observation (and appreciation) personal and genuine. Looking forward to watching the rest.

    I think the video game thing might’ve been a miscommunication. The show is very game-based but obviously the characters do not live in a video game world like in some other animes. Maybe people (it’s me, I’m people) initially thought you were speculating that they lived in a video game world, but I see that’s not what you meant. Yeah, this show builds _heavily_ off of DnD and maybe MMOs (I wouldn’t know, so I’ll take others’ word for it) and likes to give in-world explanations for as many things as it can, such as the revival mechanic that gets explained later on. I haven’t gotten far enough to see any explanation for dungeons always having levels, though I think it’s supposed to be implied to be an ecosystem thing?

      I wasn't initially going to reply to either of these comments with preferences (sub vs. dub) being what they are, which is fine, to be honest. I usually prefer sub because I tend to find the original Japanese VA to be more performance driven, and Western VA tends to be more caricature driven. But then I started thinking about what I have experienced of Marcille's character so far (up to episode seven). She's been put in quite an unusual situation. From the onset, she's reminded me of someone with middle child syndrome. She is kind of nestled in between Laios and Senshi's ages. And so, like a middle child she sees Laios' outlandish ideas as naivety on his part, pointing out that him going off on his own after his sister was folly since they all had a close connection with her. And she's often left feeling like her intelligence and wisdom are being ignored by the efficiency and self-reliance of Senshi. The classic expectation is that every elf is going to walk around stoic, spouting platitudes or some nonsense about why rocks look down or some other nonsense (Rings of Power). But Marcille is still young. Her character, largely because she's nestled between Laios and Senshi has made her a prisoner of the moment. I think the often sarcasm and meanness is warranted because if she didn't speak up at all, she would go largely unnoticed by her party. The outbursts are largely by necessity, rather than the nature of her character. When she feels in control, she's often very confident in her demeanor (even if it turns out to be a disaster). Marcille also plays the audience insert role, where because of her insistence on doing things traditionally at the expectation of the audience, we end up actually exploring more of the unusual things that make this show so memorable and wildly imaginative by subverting our expectations. I DO feel like Emily Rudd channels that frustration so well with her performance. My suspicion is that while the characters will grow closer as a family type, Marcille is going to have the biggest character arc, not just with finding her place in the party dynamic, but also by inheriting traits from those around her, such as the practical wisdom of Senshi and the out of the box thinking from Laios. Not every performance is going to meet everyone's standards, and I think that's okay. I myself am enjoying both Sub and Dub. (But now I should probably get to recording more reactions. I'm WELL behind.)

    Anyone who knows about Celtic folklore was yelling at the screen when that Kelpie appeared. How it played out in the show is basically exactly how it goes in the real life stories of Kelpies. They lure someone in with their beauty and kindness, sometimes over multiple meetings, until they get that person to ride on their back. Once that happens, they immediately betray the person, binding them to their back and dragging them into the water to drown and eat them. They were especially dangerous to children and mentally vulnerable people.

    If people were resistant to the "game logic" phrasing, they might be carrying adjacent genre baggage. People complain a lot about the overplayed tropes of the isekai transportation/reincarnation subgenre that makes heavy use of video game stats and mechanics (like a litRPG novel would), and it'd also be all too easy to be eager to say it's not actually a game world unlike other series like Log Horizon where MMORPG players get transported to a world that matches the game they played. Ironically, Dungeon Meshi is close to what I imagine the gamelit genre to be like, except there's no original IP upon which this comic is based off of. (Unlike Blade & Bastard, the light novel series based on the setting of the Wizardry games, as imagined by the author of the Goblin Slayer series.) And after writing all of this down, I see someone else has already pointed out the baggage! Well this time I'll just post the comment anyway. I really like to hear your thoughts as I make my way through these, btw!

    • @Noxiddar
      @Noxiddar 2 місяці тому

      I definitely get where people are coming from, I think most people were probably with me until I declared I was going to think of the world with game logic until told otherwise. I think this is the last time I ever brought it up. Haha. I hope you enjoy this journey of discovery I find myself on! I've fallen behind from some personal matters, but rest assured, more episodes are coming! I appreciate you taking the time to break it down. I realize I've got a lot of ignorance in a lot of things anime since I'm not very well versed in many of the shows and tropes, other than what I've personally experienced in real life living in Japan! 🤣 Have a good rest of your week, and enjoy! It's good to share good company with such a feast!

    Since you're one of the few reactors who seems open to doing dubs, PLEASE do the Frieren English dub. One of the few dubs that I think matches and occasionally surpasses the sub

    • @Noxiddar
      @Noxiddar 2 місяці тому

      That could be really interesting. I've heard a lot of great things about it. I may have to start working on that in the background while I (try to) keep up with my currently active series! Thank you for the recommendation! I'm not really married to Sub or Dub, to be honest. I generally lean toward sub because of the actual language and expressive delivery, which feels nostalgic to my time living in Japan. I like Dub for focusing on familiar VA (such as this one), but also, it's really good for a more casual watch. Sometimes, I get too focused on subs. 😅 I'm not sure why other reactors tend to prefer one over the other. It may be a reputation thing, like not wanting the scrutiny of sub only purists. Some of it may be because it's easier to talk over subs for reactions. I notice with English Dubs that I feel like I'm competing with the dialogue if I try talking over it. Some weird psychology at work. I'm really enjoying the dub for this show, however! Either way, I'm glad you stopped by to check out the video and give me your recommendation!

    • @Noxiddar
      @Noxiddar 2 місяці тому

      I appreciate all the kind words. Thank you! I'm not sure if other reactors are lacking, so much as their motivation for doing reactions are different. I tend to think most reactors are sharing what they THINK about what they are seeing. I'm always trying to both share how something makes me FEEL and to elevate the experience through appreciation of the art that goes into it. I really think appreciation alone creates a kind of authenticity that I think many, such as yourself, find unique. It's not that others aren't authentic. It's all just down to the presentation. To be fair, I don't really watch too many reaction channels outside of watching certain movie reactions to movies I've grown up loving. That's always fun. I'm so honored and humbled that you have given me your time and appreciation, and I look forward to repaying that kindness soon with more reactions on the way! Have a good rest of your week!

      @Noxiddar 2 місяці тому

      I've absolutely fallen in love with this dub. And at the same time, I am looking forward to thinking back on my favorite moments so I can revisit them in the sub and I think it would make for a pretty fun "looking back" video that also provides a fresh perspective! I know I've watched Nami's "Tasukete/Help" scene in bith sub and dub (and live action). And even amongst that I feel like there's enough nuance in performance to comment on. So it should be quite fun. I'd love it if other reactors did that, but even so, I look forward to it for myself and my own curiosity!

  • @The_dandy_zombie
    @The_dandy_zombie 2 місяці тому

    why would there be spoilers in a video meant for newcomers, I've never seen a newcomer even remember any spoiler that may have been in it except many the doffy backstory bit, wish you wouldn't have skips the parts that are the only reason to watch someone do a reaction to this.

    • @Noxiddar
      @Noxiddar 2 місяці тому

      So the thing with coming back to comment on comments like this in older videos is that I can't remember if I have explained things in the video itself or in subsequent comments like this, or in other videos after the fact. I'll confess I'm kind of a weird one when it comes to spoilers. Of course I don't really like knowing what happens next like most people when it comes to spoilers, and so for me, that's not why I stopped the reaction. I stopped it for the other aspect that I perceive as a spoiler (as a reactor) which is how "I'm supposed to feel." The video was teeing up our nakama and getting ready to discuss some general information, but I was noticing as I was watching that I felt like I was being influenced on how I was supposed to feel about certain things or characters, and I wanted that aspect of my reactions going into the series untainted and able to be given in an authentic kind of way. I'm not going to apologize for stopping it there. I'm glad I did. I didn't dislike the video. I think Super Eyepatch Wolf is a fantastic content creator. I agreed with what was shared from what I saw, and I hopefully elevated what I reacted to with some insight of my own. But I'd feel really stupid if I watched a video that tried to convince me to give something a chance based on how I should feel about a character that when I got around to reacting I didn't enjoy, or have the intended response to. Let's say Zoro's overview of character and motivation explained to me is done in a way that I should feel like I should outright worship the character, and then when I go to react, I realize I'm not really into the character, or that feeling I was supposed to feel isn't there or I feel less enthusiastic about it because I was supposed to feel this all along. I'd feel like a moron because my authentic reaction doesn't match what the general consensus for how I SHOULD feel is. I'd feel like my reaction was spoiled because I was told how I was supposed to feel, and maybe I would have felt that way naturally on my own, had I not been told ahead of time how to feel. There's going to be a contingent of viewers who are fans of Super Eyepatch Wolf and One Piece who are going to comment like you did. I didn't live up to the expectation in this video. I get it. That's the whole point behind not continuing. I didn't want to become beholden to an expectation and fake any kind of authenticity through the next 1100 episodes of anime. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. I'm enjoying the hell out of One Piece, and actually just today received the first box set of manga to revisit and expand on my observations from this video in my own capacity. I'm looking forward to it! Have a good one. Nox

      I appreciate this comment! I really try to make sure that I'm not just always commenting on the story because there is just so much that goes into productions like this. Maybe it's my theatre background. I'm always looking through that kind of evocative lens and trying to feel the moment and be aware of the art that goes into bringing those feelings out. Whether it's the artistry, the storytelling, the performances, the music, sound design, etc. I'm glad you enjoy that! It's a pretty mentally draining activity (probably why I've fallen behind in my reactions 😅), but I've found that as a developing skill it's only helped deepen my appreciation of the world around me. And that's the thing I always hope to share with everyone in these reactions. There is a whole world to appreciate and a myriad of ways in which to foster it. More reactions on the way! Apologies for the delayed response! 🙏 Nox

And the kind of snakes you can actually keep as a pet are nowhere near big enough to actually eat a person, i think there's only a couple species worldwide that can handle such a large meal. This is not to say you should cuddle with a snake in your sleep, lol. And in my opinion it's equally harmful to treat snakes as you would dogs or cats, since snakes are a solitary animal with no desire or understanding of mammalian companionship, as it is to spread fearful misinformation about them.

      All good! I did have an oopsie about the Siegfried and Roy tiger attack where I erroneously stated that the attack had resulted in one of their deaths. I'll definitely need to address that in the next video. Haha. 🤣 All the examples were made for the sentiment of (as someone else commented and said it best) wild animals are wild. And sometimes they act wild. Irregardless of our love of them.

    I'm a bit late for this one, but I'm loving the more "rambly" style of commentary you had this time! The fish story was so fun, I can't imagine what that would've felt like, but you are so strong for surviving it The animation in this show is really just remarkable, I'm glad you noticed some of those little details that add a lot! Nailing down the theme of the episode as "respect" was not something I had thought of, but it makes a lot of sense. Respect for wild creatures with the kelpie, respect for other people's hard work and passion with Marcille's soap, respect of the ecosystem with the kraken, it fits! Also I love the new shiny armor you applied to the reaction, very stylish:) Hope you're having a great week!

      It's such an actual gem to sit down and just be pleasantly surprised. I don't know if it's because of a smaller community, or if people genuinely don't want to tamper too much with my expectations, but I feel so fortunate to be able to enjoy the show for what it is, and not necessarily for what others are expecting me to see it as. I think sometimes with something as beloved like One Piece, I get unnerved going into episodes because I've got a vocal group in my comments that no matter how much I enjoy something, they tend to offer a comment that it's an invalid feeling because they know what's coming up. I think it's well-meaning, but nothing kills my enthusiasm for discovery than being told I can't be excited YET. Haha. So, I've taken a bit of a break from posting that series until I can get further ahead in recordings and maybe soften those weird comments. That's the hope! Delicious in Dungeon is such a satisfying watch. I have loved every aspect of this anime's production, and I've really been enjoying reading through the manga, too!

    OMG A Knights Tale is my favorite movie too, id watch it in theaters has a kid and i liked it for the mediaval sports setting, but has i grew older i started noticing how good the sets are, the utilery and the backgrounds characters, in compositions like in the church scene where Will is arguing with Joseline that make it looks like a play since the shot is always from a sideview, i like it so much i own it in every format it came out, i still have some tracks from the soundtrack on my playlist and i try to watch it at least once a month

    "D Animation is a incredibly underestimated medium There are lots of things that 2d animation can do that will just never be able to do with even the most advanced vfx Not to downtalk that art form either but just the fantastical freedom in worldbuilding but also in movement and expressions is definitely unique to animation Thats also the reason why a lot of people critique the current boom for live action remakes. Because it often just feels unneeded and inferior for the stories at hand but lots of people who wouldnt watch the cartoon version because "its for kids" eat it up instead of giving the original a chance. Theres a youtube channel called swamp yawn currently who is breaking down the animation of each episode of dungeon meshi and talking about the ways the different animators working on the scenes did their shots. I definitely recommend giving it a look if you're interested!

    I feel the Kelpie event and other "You can't trust a monster" ideas boil down to the fantasy version of "A wild animal is a wild animal" Don't pet bears, don't ride water buffalo

      I agree with the wild animal comparison, I'd add however how idiosyncratic folkloric beasts act, Senshi was right, he would pet the thing but it would not just bite his hand like a regular alligator, no, the rule is it must be ridden before dropping its pretense. Monsters have lot of rules that don't fit in evolutionary standards, in some universes because magic is a thing and creatures are just made up. In dungeon meshi, however, it's more challenged than in most fiction, magical beasts are still magical but have to fit on a sustainable ecosystem. Quite interesting indeed.

    Laios is such a loveable doof. The fact that he learned the sirens' song amd wamted to jam out with them is so pure, even though it does kinda contradict what he said earlier with the kelpie.

      It makes more sense I think, if you see Laios as a bio enthusiast with passion for his interests and respect for his research? You can find many powerful and dangerous animals very cool and want to find out more about their diet, their lifestyles and behaviors with the conscious knowledge that the things he loves could kill him without a thought, and likely have in the past, similarly to the living armor episode. I think the kelpie being the kind of monster that deliberately uses its charms as a familiar, gentle animal to lure you in specifically makes Laios on edge around it. He definitely springs into action as soon as the danger escalates despite his fascination with the creatures, so I've no doubt if the mermaids had attacked Chilchuck or himself he'd take them down without hesitation
